Evan J behind the drums

LEARN "THE WAY" WITH EVAN J.

Before becoming a licensed Teacher, I taught drum lessons privately in music stores and people’s homes.  When I lived in Virginia in the 90′s, I was teaching 40 students at one point.  I was also performing with several groups.  The exposure was great because people were drawn to me like magnets.  It was flattering that people were inspired by my playing and wanted to take lessons… When I relocated to New York to teach English in 2003, I did not have any free time to do anything.  Teaching drum lessons had to go on the back burner.  Things have changed.  I’m still busy, but can make time for a few drum students.

Fortunately, I have studied with some famous people: Joe Bedford, Frank Bellucci, Jim Chapin (RIP), Adam Nussbaum, Pat Petrillo, Al Wojtera (Radford University), and Al Miller (RIP) who played with Cab Calloway, just to name a few…

My musical background consists of 2 Masters Degrees, clinics (Peter Erskine, Greg Bissonette, David Garibaldi, Zach Danziger, et.al.), drum videos, live concerts, jam sessions, and constant, active listening.  As of this writing, there are 12,000 songs on my ipod.  To be versatile (an effective drummer and teacher) requires endless hours of FOCUSED LISTENING.  Therefore, I’m open to teaching everything from basics to specific musical styles.  If you’re serious, contact me:
